The future Queen is planning on attending The Grand National this year

The Duchess met the horses, patted them, fed them, and even watched them have a bath as she chatted with Waterford-based horse trainer Henry De Bromhead.

She also revealed she was planning to attend The Grand National this year and told record breaker Rachael that meeting her was one of the highlights of her trip to Ireland this week.

The Prince and the Duchess had earlier enjoyed a smashing tour of Waterford Crystal, with Charles destroying a faulty vase — that would have been worth £6k.

Camilla sensibly donned a pair of protective goggles before chucking a small rejected drinking glass into the recycling bin.

But Charles shunned the safety specs and beelined for the hefty vase which had taken almost a month to create before a small crack appeared on its rim during the handmade production.

The royal couple were shown around the famous crystal factory, which was opened in 1783, as they learnt about the intricate skills used to create the luxury products that can be found on the shelves of Harrods for around £22k.

They seemed blown away by the timely process which sees the House of Waterford melt down more than 750 tonnes of crystal a year.

The pair each tried their hand at cutting detail in the bottom of a whiskey glass to rapturous applause from factory workers.

Meeting a master and an apprentice, the Prince was told it takes a minimum of eight-years to qualify to work for the prestigious brand.

The couple were then presented with a pair of stunning champagne flutes and a cut crystal bowl collectively worth £650.

They were then treated to a stiff drink to calm their nerves after the crystal smashing extravaganza.

After both had knocked back a tumbler of Waterford single malt whiskey, one of the founders of the distillery told them it waS 50-percent proof, to which Camilla said: “Oh gosh.”
