Melanie C tells fans to ‘ask Geri’ whether the Spice Girls will reunite for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

USUALLY it is Victoria Beckham who holds up proceedings when it comes to a Spice Girls reunion.

But Melanie C has claimed it is now Geri Horner who is yet to give the green light for a return.

Melanie C has told fans to ‘ask Geri’ if the Spice Girls will reunite for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations

The girl group (including Victoria) have been asked to perform at the special concert in June

The Celeb Report told on Saturday how all five members of the chart-topping girl group, including Emma Bunton and Mel B, had been asked to reunite to perform at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this June.

But when asked about whether they would accept the invitation, Mel C suggested the question ought to be directed to Geri instead.

However, she then added that the group are yet to meet up to discuss the offer.

Speaking at her concert in London on Saturday night, she said: “You’re going to need to ask Geri about that one.

“We have not discussed it yet.”

I told earlier this month how another planned tour for the group had been shelved after Covid killed the momentum.

Geri had been helping to manage the foursome but the plans had dried up and they started to focus on other solo projects.

But Mel C, who has been on a solo tour around the country for the past week, is notorious among fans for remaining coy about plans for the group.

She denied they were set to perform at the London Olympics closing ceremony back in 2012 — before all five members were reunited.

She also played down whispers of a reunion prior to the announcement of their 2019 Spice World tour.

But in recent years she has also been the one who is most eager to do more as a group and has said she is convinced Posh Spice can be persuaded to return.

In October, Mel said: “We would love to have her back on stage. In all honesty, I think it’s gonna happen. At some point, I think Posh Spice will be back on stage.”

During the 2012 Diamond Jubilee concert, MEL B wrote on social media: “Makes me sooo sad Spice Girls wasn’t part of the Queen’s jubilee, I was so up for it.!”

And Mel C added: “Bit miffed I’m not at Buckingham Palace.”

So come on, Geri — I’m sure HRH would love another look at that Union Flag dress.

The prospect of performing for Her Majesty ought to be enough to make anyone say yes.

IT’S MABEL VERSUS EUNICE

NOT to sound like an old codger, but I’m starting to worry about Mabel.

As Storm Eunice battered Britain, the pink lady was out in just this Fendi micro mini to celebrate her 26th birthday.

No coat, no tights – she’ll catch her death if she carries on like this.

It sounds like she had enough to contend with the morning after though, battling through a monster headache.

Posting a video on Instagram she wrote: “Had the most colossal hangover of my whole life on my b’day lmao. But: She’s back, bishes!”

Glad to hear it, Mabel, but take a coat next time, yeah?

JUSTIN AND OMAH DROP AFROBEATS

JUSTIN BIEBER is set to debut a new sound next month when he drops an Afrobeats track.

I can reveal the superstar will release a single with Nigerian singer Omah Lay called Attention.

My music insider said: “The track is nothing like anything Justin has done before.

“He worked with Omah on the Masterkraft remix of Peaches but this takes things up a notch. It’s genuinely a great track.”

The move follows in the footsteps of Ed Sheeran who teamed up with Nigerian singer Fireboy DML for his No2 single Peru.

On Friday Justin kicked off his Justice world tour but suffered a setback after testing positive for Covid on Saturday.

His show in Las Vegas yesterday was postponed.

The tour reaches the UK in February 2023 when he will play London’s O2 Arena, followed by shows in Birmingham and Manchester.

Forget one track – he should have a new album by then.

THE WAITITI IS NEARLY OVER AS LOVE SPARKS RITA ALBUM NO 3

EARLY four years have passed since Rita Ora’s last album Phoenix but she has insisted the follow-up is on the way – and it will be far more experimental.

The Masked Singer judge has revealed she is taking risks with her next release but teased that it will spill the beans on her personal life, such as her romance with film star and director Taika Waititi.

She said: “With this third album I am taking more risks. The EP Bang was a great experiment, because I worked with new people and developed other kinds of sounds.

“I have continued in that vein by taking a similar approach and pushing myself creatively. It’s about putting out music that is honest and true to who I am.

“Every piece I write and record is a reflection of me at that moment.

“For me, music has always been an emotional outlet.”

Rita now has time to complete her third album, a follow-up to Phoenix and her debut Ora, after Disney+ revealed that its Beauty And The Beast TV series, which Rita was due to star in, had been shelved.

She was set to appear in the show alongside Luke Evans.

Earlier this month I told how Rita had left Atlantic Records after landing a new deal with BMG which will allow her to own all her future master recordings.

That should give her the drive to make these her best songs yet.
