PIERS Morgan has insisted he “won’t be cancelled for long” – and says he’s already got new jobs lined up after leaving Good Morning Britain.
The 55-year-old has been speaking out about choosing to quit the show over apologising for his comments about not believing Meghan Markle in her Oprah Winfrey interview.
In his latest US interview with Extra TV, host Billy Bush said: “Wow, where do we begin? You are so riveting, you are so fascinating, and yet you’re canceled.”
Piers replied: “Well, cancelled is a loose form, isn’t it? There’s been an attempt to cancel me. There’ve been many attempts like this before, and somehow I remain resolutely uncancelled.”
“In the end, I was required to apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle, who I don’t believe — and I believe, which is ironic, that you should not believe somebody if you don’t want to.”
When asked about the future, Piers said: “I’m going to take my time and then hopefully come back with something fun, exciting, and my message to the cancel culture mob is, ‘I wouldn’t celebrate too long. I don’t think I’ll be cancelled much longer.’
Since quitting Good Morning Britain, Piers has seen his 2020 book Wake Up soar to number one in the charts – both in hardback and paper copy.
Thanking his supporters, Piers said yesterday: “It says to me the British public do care about free speech and they do care about the right to have an opinion.”
He also revealed he’s had messages from members of the Royal Family thanking him for “standing up” to Prince Harry and Meghan.
Piers claimed he had received messages sent on behalf of “several” royals over his coverage of the couple’s Oprah Winfrey interview.
He said: “I’ve had some messages communicated to me on behalf on several members of the Royal Family.
“I’m not going to go into who it was… but gratitude that somebody was standing up.”
