Prince Harry shockingly blames William and Kate Middleton for encouraging him to wear infamous Nazi uniform to party

PRINCE Harry has claimed his brother and Kate Middleton encouraged him to wear his notorious Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party, according to a leaked excerpt from his book.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, will reveal in his memoir Spare the now Prince and Princess of Wales “howled with laughter” when they saw him dressed up in the offensive outfit for the party in 2005.

Details of the division between the royal brothers are revealed in Harry’s memoir

The Celeb Report broke the shocking story with a front-page photo of the royal dressed as a Nazi soldier complete with a red armband emblazoned with a swastika, when the prince was 20 years old.

The Prince later apologised for his actions.

The royal brother had gone to Maud’s Cotswold Costumes in January 2005 ahead of a costume party with a “Native and Colonial” theme.

In a segment of the book, seen by Page Six, Harry describes selecting the outfit, saying it was a choice between two costumes – a pilot uniform or a Nazi one.

“I phoned Willy and Kate, asked what they thought. Nazi uniform, they said,” Harry writes, adding that when he went home and put it on for them. “They both howled. Worse than Willy’s leotard outfit! Way more ridiculous! Which, again, was the point.”

Harry’s outfit caused widespread outcry at the time, forcing Clarence House to quickly issue a written statement from the prince apologising for any offence, and there were indications that he received a dressing down from his father King Charles, who was then the Prince of Wales.

In the statement, Harry said he was “very sorry if I caused any offence or embarrassment to anyone”.

He added: “It was a poor choice of costume and I apologise.”

Harry’s book is expected to go into detail about his fallout with his older brother following the ensuing storm.

Other sources have revealed he has also written about both Kate and his stepmother, Queen Consort Camilla.

A senior publishing source who has read Spare told Page Six: “It’s strange as you would think that Harry would take ownership of this and just move on and not drag his brother into it, but he makes it clear that he feels strongly about William’s role in the scandal.”

Royal biographer Robert Lacey claimed in Battle of Brothers that the brothers “laughed all the way back” from the store, but that it was Harry who received all the negative attention.

Of the incident, Lacey said: “He apologised, but there was public outrage.

“Many observers, however, missed the point: obviously the 20-year-old Harry wasn’t really a neo-Nazi, as one Labour MP alleged.

The explosive revelations in Harry’s book include:

  • Prince Harry claimed his brother William ‘attacked’ him in a row over Meghan Markle
  • Harry called his therapist instead of Meghan after the confrontation with his brother
  • Charles pleaded with Harry and William not to ‘make his final years a misery’
  • The Duke of Sussex revealed the nicknames he uses with William
  • Meanwhile, seven times Harry was welcomed by the Royals have been revealed

“The lad was naughty, not a Nazi. Most clearly of all, we know that Harry chose his costume in conjunction with his elder brother — the future King William V, then 22, who had laughed all the way back to Highgrove with the younger sibling he was supposed to be mentoring — and then onwards to the party together.”

In the book, Harry is said to have started feeling alienated from his family following the incident.

It says: “The young prince began re-evaluating his elder brother’s involvement and the unfairness of William’s subsequent emergence smelling of roses.”

“It made Harry feel resentful and even alienated,” Lacey added, claiming that William was the one who would “coax” Harry into his “errant and self-destructive ways.”

“For the first time, their relationship really suffered and they barely spoke,” one former aide told Lacey. “Harry resented the fact that William got away so lightly.”

The revelations come as Harry claims in his book that William “knocked him to the floor” during an argument about Meghan Markle.

Harry says in Spare that The Prince of Wales branded Meghan “rude” and “difficult” during a row.

Harry alleges William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor” in an extract of the book reported by the Guardian.

The Duke claims he was left with a visible injury to his back following the argument in 2019 at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where he was living at the time.

Harry says William was already “piping hot” when he arrived wanting to talk about their deteriorating relationship.

According to Harry, it turned into a shouting match as William complained about his wife Meghan, calling her “rude” and “abrasive”.

Harry accused his brother of repeating the press narrative before William insisted he was trying to help.

The Duke of Sussex responded: “Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?”

Harry claims he then poured William a glass of water and said: “Willy, I can’t speak to you when you’re like this.”

He then says his brother called him “another name” and then “came at me”.

Harry claims: “It all happened so fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.

“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

He says William told him to hit him back but he refused, and so his brother left “looking regretful, and apologised”.

It comes after The Celeb Report revealed that the book will take his war with brother William, 40, to a new level.

Harry’s biography Spare — expected to reveal more than his Netflix series — complains about him playing second fiddle.

The explosive book — called Spare and due to be published on January 10 — is set to go further than his £80million Netflix docuseries and give a detailed blow-by-blow account of their falling out.

Meanwhile, Harry has attacked his family in two TV interviews with ITV and CBS ahead of the book launch.
