Why does the Queen have two birthdays?

Every monarch in the United Kingdom went on and will go on to celebrate their birthday twice a year.

In the past, the official celebrations were not held on the actual birthday of the King or Queen.

But when King Edward VII took the throne from 1901 to 1910, he wanted to have a huge public celebration for his birthday.

Unfortunately for him, he was born in November and so the weather never really turned out quite well to host a huge birthday parade.

So he decided to celebrate his birthday on his actual date and later on mark the special occasion again with a military parade in the summer when the weather will hopefully be nicer.

How old is the Queen?

The Queen is 95-years old.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, in Mayfair, London to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and George VI.

How does the Queen celebrate her birthday?

The Queen usually celebrates her birthday with her family.

There are three salutes that mark her birthday anniversary across the UK.

There is a 41-gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21-gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London.

In June, a Trooping the Colour parade celebrates her birthday along with the public.

Also known as The Queen’s Birthday Parade, it has been held for over 260 years.

It includes over 1400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians and an RAF plane aerial display.

Many gather around Buckingham Palace wearing Union Jacks and waving their flags.
