A GUEST on A Place in the Sun laughed as her husband slammed presenter Ben Hillman’s ‘soulless’ property choice.
The Channel 4 show was in Costa Almeria in Spain for the latest episode, with Ben guiding retired detectives Penny and Jon around the area in search of their dream holiday home.
Armed with a maximum budget of £105,000, Ben arranged several property viewings for the couple. However, this proved to be a hard case for Ben to crack, with Jon branding one property “soulless”.
Penny and Jon gave Ben a brief to find a place with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. They also wanted a modern holiday home with outside space and great views.
Experienced property expert Ben fulfilled a number of their requests with the first two properties, but Penny and Jon still felt disappointed.
Hoping it would be third time lucky, Ben introduced Jon and Penny to another property, priced at just under £94,000. The apartment featured two bedrooms, two bathrooms, access to two communal pools and a communal tennis court.
Jon graciously said that this property was a contender and a step in the right direction. However, things swiftly went downhill at property number four.
On the market for just over £102,500 the holiday home was a 10-minute walk from a local beach. Matching their brief, it boasted two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a terrace and a communal pool.
However, immediately after entering, Jon made it clear he was unimpressed, with Penny laughing as he said: “I’m not liking it. I’m not feeling it at all if I’m honest.”
“It’s modern but dark isn’t it?” Penny commented, while looking at the small kitchen.
Jon replied: “It’s just soulless Penny. I want to come on holiday and feel like we’re coming to a second home. This is just soulless. It’s not homely is it?”
The couple then met up with Ben to reveal their damning verdict, with Jon telling him: “You’re back in the bad books.”
“Back in the bad books”
A shocked Ben replied: “I’m back in the bad books? Gosh it’s a rollercoaster ride.”
“That just doesn’t feel like a second home to me. It’s soulless. No soul,” Jon clarified.
Clearly at a loss, Ben revealed: “I don’t think the pressure has ever been on quite like it is at the moment.”
A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
