Fans quickly branded her Golden Buzzer act Olivia Lynes a “fix” – after the performance which saw the youngster secure a place in the next round.

During the show, the judges were blown away by the schoolgirl who gave a beautiful rendition of Defying Gravity from Wicked.

TV judge Amanda was pressed her buzzer for the 11-year-old singer from Bath after convincing her to come for an audition.

Amanda surprised Olivia at the theatre whilst she and her mum were getting tickets for Matilda The Musical.

This did not go down well with fans but Amanda has now insisted she “did not know Olivia could sing” after meeting her prior to the BGT audition.

She told MailOnline: “So I didn’t know if I was allowed to press it for her because I’d actually met her the day before as part of our golden moments and encouraged her to come down and audition.

“But when I met her I had no idea if she could sing, and then was absolutely blown away by her performance.

“It’s just so typical of what I would press my buzzer for. I was almost like, “Oh my god. It’s going to have to be this because I love it. She is amazing.'”

On the show, Amanda told the youngster how her mum had reached out to the show in a bid to encourage her to audition.

“I wanted to ask you whether you might like to come down to Britain’s Got Talent and meet the other judges and come and sing for us as an audition?” Amanda asked and Olivia replied: “Yes please.”

Many unhappy fans took to social media saying the youngster had been unfairly “hand picked” by Amanda.

One wrote: “What’s the point of this show? She’s hand picked by Amanda, who then gives her a golden buzzer, what a fix.”
