BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty distraught as one of her favourite BBC shows calls it quits

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty has been left distraught after one of her favourite BBC shows decided to come to an end.

Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode have presented their Radio 5 Live Film Review show for two decades – but recently decided to “step back”.

Simon and Mark have decided to step back from their Radio 5 Live show

Naga, 47, took to social media to share her upset at the news that the long-running show will be coming to an end this April.

The TV presenter admitted she was left upset to hear that Simon, 63, and Mark, 58, had made the decision after 21 years on air.

Naga, who also presents her own show on BBC Radio 5, took to Twitter to share her upset as she responded to the news.

Simon Mayo has announced that Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review is coming to an end on @bbc5live. The last show will be on April 1st,” a statement on social media read.

The duo publicly added in a cryptic statement over their decision: “21 years is a long time to be clogging up the schedules.

“We – and no one else – have decided to step away… to withdraw… to spread our wings… to exit, pursued by a bear.”

“Anyway, we are way too expensive, and there are much better things for the BBC to be spending their money on,” Simon said on air on Friday.

“Also, keeping Mark in big microphones, large chairs and bottomless coffee is pricey enough, so April 1st will be our last show on 5 Live.”

Taking to Twitter in response, Naga quoted the post and simply wrote “NO” as she tagged the radio station to ensure the bosses could see.

Fans quickly flooded the comments section to agree with Naga, with one writing: “Totally agree Naga.”

A second remained hopeful, adding: “I get the feeling it will carry on in a different guise. I’m really hoping they are moving to another channel.”

Others shared their hopes that it could be an April Fools Day prank, as they noted the suspicious end date on April 1.

Mayo and Kermode’s Film Review, which sees the duo break down the week’s top ten films, debuted back in 2001.

The show often sees the two radio journalists interviewing some of the world’s biggest movie stars and reviewing new cinematography.

The pair scooped their own Gold Sony Radio Award in 2009 for the long-standing reviews show, live on Friday afternoons.
