Black Narcissus slammed as ‘dull’ by viewers as they refuse to watch another episode of BBC drama

BLACK Narcissus has been slammed as ‘dull’ by viewers as they refuse to watch another episode of BBC drama.

The new mini-series began on BBC One last night and follows Sister Clodagh (Gemma Arterton), a nun leading a group through the Himalayan mountains.

Black Narcissus has been branded ‘dull’ by viewers

Sister Clodagh along with another nun, Sister Ruth, find themselves attracted to two men, leading them both to struggle with their desires.

However, despite the erotic undertones of the drama, it left many viewer confused and bored.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Was it just me but #BlackNarcissus seemed very slow & dull. Are they trying to stretch a 2 hour story to 3 to fulfil a TV schedule need?”

Another added: “BlackNarcissus started well with this mysterious suicidal mystery then immediately switched to some nuns. It felt like it was trying to be mysterious but was just a load of banging windows. Not bothered with the next episodes. People who know the film/book does it get better?”

A third tweeted: “Fabulous scenery but rather muddled story. Not sure I’m interested enough to sit through another 2 episodes.”

Meanwhile a fourth wrote: “Well that is an hour of my life I won’t get back #BlackNarcissus my mind wandered totally throughout it was dull and overly long.”

The series is based on the 1939 novel by Rumer Godden, which lead to the 1947 film version starring Deborah Kerr.

While some felt the new series wasn’t a patch on the movie, others were pleased with the latest adaptation.

One wrote: “#Black Narcissus. Loved the original, dark and brooding and the remake is looking very good also!”

Another tweeted: “whoa loved it! Can’t wait for the next Episode. Great cast and production.”

A third agreed, writing: “Beautifully filmed. I quite enjoyed it and its hints of place/building holding haunting memories which influence thinking leading to psychological issues & mindgames. Looking forward to the rest of the series.”

Black Narcissus continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
