Helen said she hopes faces from the show’s past would be reunited

Helen admitted in a chat with the RadioTimes that plans on how to end the show has been discussed and that she would be very keen on a reunion with past characters from the show.

She said on the matter: “We’ve talked about that, wouldn’t it be nice?

“Like at the end of Titanic, all the characters come and it’s just beautiful.

“It would have been amazing to have everybody.”

Teasing reunion plans ever further, she continued: “Look, you’ll have to wait and see. But it’ll be nice at some point – maybe at the end of the very, very last series – to get some of the old faces back, for sure.”

If an epic final reunion was to occur however, fans would have to sit and wait patiently as the family favourite is due to remain on our screens in 2024 and 2025.

This means that the earliest it would be likely to occur is either 2025, should bosses axe the show at the of its current contract, or 2026 if it is brought back for another go-around.

One of the most recognisable faces from the past that the Beeb would be desperate to get thier hands on for a final showdown would be legendary sitcom star Miranda Hart.

Miranda played Matron Camilla Fortescue-Cholmondeley-Browne, known as Chummy in the show which marked a departure from fans used to seeing her in her own self-titled comedy show, Miranda.

Backing a return for the star even further, Call the Midwife’s creator Heidi Thomas previously confessed to the Daily Mail that she would be at the top of her wish list of characters to bring back.

Heidi said: “I still hope that one day we will come back to Chummy.”

The current series of Call the Midwife just ended its 12th series run on the BBC.

It comes as fans were left distraught by a shock death in the season finale.

Show favourite Lizzie Yue was killed in a tragic car crash.

The character who was heavily pregnant, and played by Rebecca Hyde, was with her husband when the accident happened.

Just seconds after the tragedy occurred one viewer commented: “Please safe the baby, this is heartbreaking #callthemidwife. Thought this episode was being too happy .”

Another said: “Ok I’m crying like a baby right now.”

While another added: “Bl**dy hell! Caesarean in the street!”
