The TV favourite first of all re-posted a beaming selfie that 30-year-old Katie had shared, showing herself holding onto a glass of gin as she told followers: “ONLY ONE THING THIS FACE MEANS!!!”

Carol added: “My girl @Katie.Science handed in her PhD thesis today at Cambridge University. For the delivery of a new cancer drug specifically and only to the tumour using NANOTECHNOLOGY”.

She rounded off her caption with a series of heart and strong-arm emojis.

The former Countdown presenter then added another pic of Katie with her fist in the air as she posed in her laboratory.

Carol added Rita Ora hit Proud to the post as she wrote: “My girl @Katie.Science in her lab @CambridgeUniversity researching nanotechnology to help cure cancers.”

Katie is Carol’s oldest child with ex-husband Patrick King, with the star also mum to 24-year-old Cameron.

And she is just as proud of her son, last month gushing over him for overcoming his disability to graduate University.

She revealed at the time that Cameron had “severe special educational needs”, adding: “Cam stuck with it, through endless bullying, changed school, developed strategies to learn.

“He got a first class honours degree in animation, and now he has just received his masters degree in animation and video effects.”
