As Robyn was brought into the ED the rest of the staff were battling with an influx of patients and lack of resources which meant a long wait to get her into theatre.

In a devastating blow the character sadly didn’t make it and many fans rushed to Twitter to have their say.

One wrote: “Heartbreaking end for such a fantastic character really gonna miss Robyn.”

Another said: “That really was a very powerful episode of #Casualty Poor Robyn.”

Someone else wrote: “What an episode. Props to everyone involved in the show, realistically highlighting exactly what’s going on within the NHS today.

“Very sad they killed Robyn off though she deserved her happy ending not this.”

And a fourth added: “That was absolutely heartbreaking, but a masterpiece of an episode.

“One of the very best in years. Having a main character like Robyn die as a result of the NHS crisis is such a bold and impactful choice.”

It wasn’t only Robyn that fans had to say goodbye to on Saturday night.

After breaking down over the pressures of the ED and Robyn’s death, David Hyde [Jason Durr] and Marty Kirkby [Shaheen Jafargholi] both decided to quit.
