GEMMA Winter is set to face a huge dilemma with the return of her former boyfriend Henry Newton.
But in recent months, Coronation Street fans have demanded soap bosses axe her and her family – with the exception of one character.
Fans are growing frustrated with one Corrie family
Many have been asking for Gemma to be axed for months with her entire family
But one member of the Winter-Brown clan remains a fan favourite
George Banks is reprising the role of the brewery heir, ready to stir up trouble for Gemma Winter (played by Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston).
The pair tied the knot in late May, 2023, with many ITV viewers moved by the ceremony which was followed by Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) intense MND diagnosis reveal.
However, this may not have been enough for soap fans to take a liking to Gemma Winter.
For many months, fans of the Manchester-based drama have shared their dislike for the character through multiple social media platforms.
Most have asked soap bosses to not only get rid of her but also give the axe to her husband Chesney, a long-term Weatherfield resident, and their four children.
“Please get rid of Gemma”, one viewer commented as another agreed: “Chesney and Gemma should leave they bore me.”
Another penned: “Chesney get the message, Coronation Street isn’t a safe place to bring up a family. LEAVE, take Gemma and the Winters.”
In a more recent Digital Spy thread about characters who unfairly killed off, one fan admitted they missed Pat Phelan, especially due to Gemma’s presence in the cobbles.
“Phelan. With Gemma and Mary still alive, his job wasn’t finished”, they brutally fumed.
However, one member of the Winter-Brown family has managed to dodge complaints – Jane Hazlegrove‘s Bernie.
“Axe Gemma Quads and Chesney then move Bernie Mary and Glenda into a flat! I’d love to see it!”, one fan wrote on Twitter.
Many other fans have expressed their wish for Bernie to remain a part of life in Corrie, particularly as Metro.co.uk made it clear she had the makings of a soap legend.
Bernie was first introduced as Gemma and Paul’s long-lost mother and an unreliable troublemaker in 2019.
However, viewers quickly began to like her as her abrasive and scheming nature threw her into some comical storylines.
Thankfully for viewers, no plans for Jane Hazlegrove to leave the cobbles have yet been made, particularly due to her on-screen son’s harrowing MND ordeal.
But could Gemma’s storyline with Henry Newton help her make peace with viewers?
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
