COUNTDOWN’S Susie Dent took a swipe at Anne Robinson’s age in a very awkward on-air blunder today.
The Dictionary Corner star, 57, was singing the praises of Marmite when she had an unfortunate slip of the tongue.
She enthused: “I absolutely love it.”
It prompted Anne to agree, with the 77-year-old adding: “It’s the sort of smell of childhood, actually.”
Susie continued, “yes, it’s very old…” before catching herself and swiftly moving away from the age of the divisive yeasty spread.
A viewer laughed: “Well saved Susie.. Don’t call the old girl old fashioned!”

Anne’s year-long tenure on Countdown was overshadowed by reports of a feud with Rachel Riley and Susie.
All three denied it, but did accept they aren’t great friends.
Anne opened up about her departure last night on Piers Morgan: Uncensored. She said: “Susie Dent is great. Rachel Riley is completely brilliant at the maths.”
Piers then probed: “You just didn’t get on well?”
“No, I didn’t not get on.
“But some performers like a lot of noise around them before they go on air and others like me, who are trying to get the contestants to remember what their hobbies are, would like some quiet while she’s doing that.
“So it was important to me that we took her mic off so that I could have some peace.”
The former Weakest Link star became the first female to take on the role as Countdown host when she stepped into Nick Hewer’s shoes in June last year.
