Return of a Comedy Legend
Derren Litten, the creator of the legendary ITV comedy Benidorm, has hinted at a possible revival of the show, five years after it was axed from the screens. Fans of the series are eagerly anticipating its comeback.
A Beloved Escape to Sunny Spain
Since its debut in 2006, Benidorm quickly became a favorite among ITV viewers, offering a delightful escape to sunny Spain. Produced by Tiger Aspect, the show gained popularity and received several National Television Awards, as well as a BAFTA nomination. However, after its cancellation by ITV, the curtain fell on the show in 2018.
The Journey Continues
Following the television series, Derren Litten directed the theatre production Benidorm Live from 2019 to 2018. He then moved on to create a new sitcom called Scarborough, which aired on the BBC. Unfortunately, Scarborough only lasted one season, leaving fans longing for more of Litten's comedic genius.
A Fan's Plea
Recently, a fan of the beloved series took to social media to express their desire for new episodes. After streaming old episodes of Benidorm on ITVX, the fan called out to Derren Litten, suggesting that he had plenty of stories left to tell. The fan's plea caught Litten's attention.
Benidorm's Possible Return
Derren Litten responded to the fan's call for more episodes, revealing that Benidorm could indeed make a comeback. Despite not living in the Spanish town, Litten expressed his proximity and teased that he had enough material for another 74 episodes. Now it's up to ITV to decide if they want to pursue the revival.
A Fan Outpouring
Benidorm fans were thrilled by Litten's statement, flooding the comments with requests for more episodes. They urged ITV and even Netflix to consider bringing back the beloved series. Some fans even suggested a possible name for the revival: "Benidorm: The Next Generation."
A Star-Studded Cast
Throughout its 13-year run, Benidorm featured a host of popular stars. Notable alumni from the series include Steve Pemberton from Killing Eve, who had a prominent role for over half of the show's duration. Other stars such as Sheridan Smith, Hannah Waddingham (of Ted Lasso fame), and Danny Walters from EastEnders also made appearances in the comedy series.
