EastEnders spoilers: Stuart Highway confesses his true feelings about baby Roland leaving Rainie devastated

VIEWERS have seen Stuart Highway experience symptoms of postnatal depression, unbeknownst to his wife.

However, next week in EastEnders, Rainie Cross will be heartbroken as she uncovers the truth.

Ricky has to come clean to Rainie next week

He has been pretending to have relapsed in his painkillers addiction

Rainie finds out her husband actually suffers from postnatal depression and has no feelings for Roland

The cat comes out of the bag for Stuart Highway (portrayed by Ricky Champ) next week.

In recent weeks, and following the birth of his son Roland via surrogate, the Walford tough man has been struggling to bond with his baby.

To preserve his wife Rainie (Tanya Franks), he has masked his postnatal depression as a relapse in his addiction to painkillers.

But secrets don’t stay hidden for very long in Albert Square.

Coming up, Rainie discovers pills Stuart has tried to dispose of and realises Stuart has been lying about taking his painkillers.

She begins to question why Stuart would try and make her believe he’s addicted once again but he hurriedly leaves for his chemotherapy appointment as he continues to battle male breast cancer.

While he successfully avoids Rainie, the truth eventually catches up with Stuart.

In later scenes, the undertaker is forced to admit to his wife that he has no feelings towards Roland, leaving Rainie heartbroken.

Reeling after Stuart’s confession, Rainie decides to go out for some air, in a bid to clear her head.

Thankfully for her, this is also where she finds support in the form of Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths), who can see all is not well.

However, Rainie refuses to tell the truth and simply reminds him of the difficulty of having a new baby.

Mitch has only heightened Stuart’s insecurity around fatherhood after he was spotted naturally bonding with Roland whilst taking care of him.

Stuart and Rainie became parents after Bernie Taylor gave birth to Roland and abided by their surrogacy agreement.

But the youngster made sure Stuart would get help for his cancer before giving her baby away.

Prior to this, Stuart was in denial about his condition and even spent weeks hiding it from Rainie.

He was eventually forced to come to terms with his cancer and decided to comply to get the family he and Rainie wished for.

But how will Stuart and his other half cope with his postnatal depression?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday on BBC One.
