Iconic actress takes on new project

EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy has secured a role that will take her away from Albert Square. Known for her role as Sonia Fowler in the BBC soap since 1993, Cassidy is set to join the second series of the BBC drama 'Boarders', alongside Traitors US presenter Alan Cumming.

New faces in the series

The series focuses on five talented black inner-city teens who receive scholarships to the prestigious St. Gilbert’s boarding school. Cumming will play a character named Alan, known for his high standards at the school, while Cassidy's role has not been officially disclosed.

Exciting opportunities

In a statement to Deadline, Alan Cumming expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I’ve always said that letting people know you are a fan of theirs is a good idea. And, so it was with Boarders."

Temporary departure from EastEnders

Last year, Cassidy hinted at Sonia Fowler's exit from EastEnders after her character was charged with murder. The actress will be taking a short break from the soap to film a four-part series for Channel 4 titled 'What’s The Big Deal?', focusing on trending consumer products.
