Other than flowers on Albert Square, all evidence of the explosion is gone. The pavements and streets have been swept clean, and the windows appear to have been replaced.
Dramatic Scenes
During the explosion, Martin Fowler, played by James Bye, lay dying in the arms of his ex-wife. The blast also left Sharon Watts at death’s door.

Sharon Watts, played by Letitia Dean, was left seeing visions of her late mum, Angie Watts, played by Anita Dobson.
At the time, fans were left horrified as the huge explosion ripped through the square, leaving the fate of many characters unknown.
The explosion was one of the soap's most sensational storylines, sparking speculation over who would perish in the fire.
EastEnders' dramatic anniversary week also featured a special live episode and the return of Ross Kemp as Grant Mitchell.
