The star says being sexy is her “support blanket” and gives her confidence

In upcoming documentary Asking For It?, Emily will go into detail about how she’s been left terrified by rape threats and sexual harrassment.

What’s worse is critics and victim-shamers claim she’s “asking for it” after becoming a sex symbol thanks to her role in The Inbetweeners 12 years ago.

But far from be deterred to be anyone but herself in the wake of these horrific online attacks, Emily has now said she embraces her sexuality and confidence on her own terms, calling it her “comfort blanket”.

“People were just constantly panicking and going, ‘You need to change this, you need to change that’. I’m not trying to be a sexy pin-up going, ‘Hey boys, here I am,” she told the Daily Star.

“But I’m single as well, I’m on the dating scene – so that’s up to me.”

She later affirmed a love of her look and style, saying it was never to be “sexy” for men, but rather to give herself confidence.

“Why is it that if you want to feel powerful as a woman, you want to feel sexy?,” she added. “It doesn’t mean we’re asking to be raped or sexually harassed.”

Emily Atack: Asking For It? airs Tuesday at 9pm on BBC Two.
