Emmerdale fans in tears as Rhona comforts grieving Laurel over her termination

EMMERDALE fans are heartbroken as Rhona Goskirk admitted she worries every day about her son Leo.

The vet – who is played by actress Zoe Henry in the ITV soap – was trying to comfort Laurel Thomas after her termination, by telling her own worries about her son.

Rhona helped Laurel in tonight’s Emmerdale

Laurel underwent a termination after discovering her baby had Down’s Syndrome, while Rhona has a ten year old son Leo who has Down’s.

Laurel told her: “I hate feeling like this. Whatever this is. Like I’ve got this pain, like there’s this hole inside me.:

As Rhona told her she was feeling grief, Laurel insisted as she chose to have a termination she couldn’t be feeling grief.

She said: “Grief is something you can’t control, like losing Ashley or losing Daniel. Grief isn’t something you choose.”

Laurel turned to Rhona to express her feelings

But Rhona persisted in trying to help Laurel understand.

She told her friend: “How many times have you wondered if things might have been different?

“Or just wondered how much their life would have been impaired. The mind wanders, doesn’t it, to all the places that hurt the most.

“I used to sit up every night going over and over the same list. Heart defects, spinal abnormalities, digestive problems… they are burned into my brain.

She was in floods of tears

“They never go away. But that doesn’t stop you wondering about what might have been, does it?

“You’re grieving Laurel, about the life you wish they could have had. You want to respect your baby’s memory, don’t you, then you need to allow yourself to grieve.”

Fans were in tears at the scenes.

One wrote: “Awwwww touching Laurel and Rhona scenes.”

A second said: “Poor Laurel, she’s made such a difficult decision.”

Another added: “No matter what opinions you have on Rhona, she is such and understanding supportive friend to Laurel.”
