“There are a few actors who come onto the set and you just can’t take your eyes off them and what they do.

“She’s a great human being and I’m so sad we’re losing her.”

Sally returned the compliment in an interview with the TV Times, saying she was “devastated” to say goodbye to her on-screen family.

She said “Even though I think it’s the right thing, it’s quite devastating because I’m going to leave behind people I really care about, like Jeff, Lucy [Pargeter] and Natalie [J Robb].”

“It’s extraordinary to be working with them. I don’t just mean their acting abilities, but them as human beings.”

The 50th anniversary shows will see a huge storm putting terrified residents in mortal peril and destroys part of the village.

Three former stars of the soap will be returning for the anniversary month, including I’m A Celebrity Winner Danny Miller who quit as Aaron Dingle last year to tackle new roles.

He will be joined by Elizabeth Estensen as Diane Sugden and Kimberley Walsh as Tracy Metcalfe.

Emmerdale’s executive producer Jane Hudson explained that the faith plot would play out at the start of October.

She told the Echo: “At the start of the month, we will be focusing on our Faith storyline, which is a huge storyline for us at the moment.”
