In recent scenes aired on ITV, Wendy Posner was made to believe her other half Bob Hope (played by Tony Audenshaw) had been unfaithful to her with the fiery redhead (Samantha Giles).
The nurse portrayed by Susan Cookson immediately took action, leaving Bernice to pick up the pieces and clear things up during last night’s episode of the Yorkshire-based drama.
But her attempt at reaching out to her pal left viewers reaching for the sick bucket.
As fans know, Bernice never spent the night with Bob Hope but, instead, had a sizzling encounter with Tim, a harpist hired for the B&B’s grand re-opening.
As she tried to mend her friendship with Wendy, Bernice gave her vivid details of her wild one night stand while assuming the nurse was going through the menopause.
She then gushed over the musician’s moves in the bedroom, explaining: “I slept with Tim, the man who played the harp. Oh Wendy, you should have seen him – such wonderful fingering.”
Bernice went on to add she mistakenly thought she had killed the harpist during their night together when he, in fact, had simply overslept due to a sleeping pill he had taken shortly after.
“I mean to be fair it had been a very long and fallow period,”, Bernice quipped.
Emmerdale viewers cringed and swarmed over to Twitter to share their thoughts about the NSFW comment.
“No wonder Bernice liked the harpist – ‘wonderful fingering’ – ahem!”, one of them penned.
A second soap fan joked: “Amazing fingering and such a powerful instrument. Think we all need a good harpist.”
“When she said fingering it made me gag!”, another complained.
A handful of viewers couldn’t help but notice the saucy comment occurred before the watershed.
“Should that be mentioned Bernice. Before the nine o’clock watershed”, one of them commented questioned while another echoed: “Excuse me it’s before the watershed speaking about fingering.”
One soap viewer chimed in: “Did I hear that right?” and another stunned fan wrote: “She didn’t just say that.”
A Twitter user even predicted a series of Ofcom complaints: “Watch now when the fingering comment gets a load of complaints.”
Although Wendy jumped to conclusion about Bob and Bernice, does she really have anything to worry about?
Bob seemed to be thrown into a new comedy duo with Bernice as they are taking charge of the B&B – but could it lead to romance?
Actor Tony Audenshaw recently made it clear that Bob is very committed to Wendy.
“You never know, do you? You never know what’s going to happen with these relationships, if there is a spark”, he first said.
“There’s certainly some sort of chemistry between them, but Bob has said that those days are very much behind him. He’s very happy with Wendy.”
Emmerdale airs every weeknight from 7.30pm on ITV.
