FORMER EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison is making her TV comeback after landing her first big role on the small screen in six years.
Cheryl, who starred as Heather ‘Hev’ Trott in the BBC1 soap, has teased her new role with fans online – and revealed she will be starring alongside David Walliams and Sheridan Smith.
The actress is set to reveal the exact details of her big job on Thursday morning, however it is believed she has bagged a part in Hansel & Gretel: After Ever After.
Dropping on Sky TV this Christmas, the adaptation of the Brothers Grimm story sees David and Sheridan looking completely different as they dress up as fairytale characters.
Cheryl’s news comes after she repeatedly begged both Coronation Street and Emmerdale bosses to give her a part in one of the ITV1 soaps.
Taking to Instagram, Cheryl shared her exciting news while travelling by train to London.
Alongside a selfie, she said: “Where am I off to today?? Well only back down to the smoke for a press release tomorrow with @dwalliams @sheridansmithster.
“Are you ready press? Yes it’s gonna be another must see family watch… it’s a fantastic cast…and I’m so humbled and blessed to be in this. Thanks to everyone for your continued support.”
Sheridan, who is famed for starring in shows including Gavin & Stacey, Four Pints and Cilla, replied: “Can’t wait to see you!!!
.”
Cheryl, meanwhile, told her: “Let’s have a giggle Mrs.”
The 56-year-old actress has since shared a snap of the view from her hotel room, adding: “The view from my hotel in London … was it wrong that I bought me own pot noodle and vanilla slice??
.
“Out tonight on a little jaunt… will let you know when I get there … all in support of West End Theatre and then it will be home to hotel early so that I can be bright eyed and bushy tailed for the Press conference in the morning for ……??”
One fan told her: “This is so exciting Cheryl!”
Another echoed: “Excited for you!”
DESPERATE PLEAS
Cheryl played hapless Heather Trott in EastEnders from 2007 to 2012.
The character was killed off in a dramatic whodunnit storyline, which later saw Ben Mitchell convicted of Heather’s murder.
Cheryl did make a return to the BBC1 soap in 2016 but as a voiceover. Heather was heard gushing that Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas “without a bit of George Michael”.
Since then, Cheryl has been open about the difficulties she’s faced when trying to find TV roles.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain in 2018, she revealed that she had quit London and moved up north.
“I don’t miss (London) but I wouldn’t mind getting into one of those soap things please …” Cheryl said.
“Yes please, Corrie, Emmerdale, a long lost Dingle even or anything.”
She issued a similar plea in August last year while speaking on MIM Productions’ Distinct Nostalgia podcast.
Cheryl said: “I would totally contemplate doing Corrie and given now that I live up North and talk like that now.“I am like, ‘Hiya love’.”
She has also challenged EastEnders writers with the task of bringing her back to the soap.
“Ok so I’ve had lots of people asking if I could go back to @bbceastenders as Hev’s long lost twin…,” Cheryl previously wrote on Instagram.
“So writers there’s a challenge and actually there is a storyline that could defo make that possible…
“Remember Hev’s mum (she was a wicked one) and aunt babes terrible past story of selling babies !! If you would like to see this epic come back let @bbceastenders know…”
