Having been under construction for the last nine months, viewers will soon get used to seeing the Weatherfield Precicnt on their screens from the new year.
The Precinct has long been mentioned by characters on the show but has never been seen on-screen.
Now for the first time, viewers will be able to see the characters going about their daily shopping activities with trips outside of the current Corrie set.
Cast members from the show gathered for the first time to see the unveiling of the impressive set for the first time.
Regulars such as Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe), Antony Cotton (Sean Tully), Elle Mulvaney (Amy Barlow), Tanisha Gorey (Asha Alahan), James Craven (Aaron Sandford) and Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) were among some of the cast checking out the new filming facilities where their characters are bound to end up finding themselves in a whole heap of trouble.
The new construction contains two storeys featuring a series of maisonettes, a staircase and balcony leading to properties.
As well as this, the main precinct area features a piazza and a range of shops and units, all based on the MediaCityUK site in Salford, Greater Manchester.
There will also be a brand new children’s park featuring a set of swings and roundabouts for the children of the street to enjoy playing on.
Some of the first two characters to make use of the new set will be Roy Cropper and Evelyn Plummer when they begin to take up volunteer shifts at a charity shop.
The cast will commence filming on the brand new set next week with the set making its first appearance on screen in January.
Speaking of the huge new expansion and its scope to play home to some incredible storylines, producer Iain MacLeod said: “Hats off to our design and construction teams who have
conjured a totally convincing new precinct for our drama!
“They took their inspiration from Salford’s many real-world, late 20th century shopping areas and what they have created is a brilliant, characterful space to tell a diverse range of stories.
“Expect to see teens hanging out at the dessert shop, families enjoying the play area and, after dark, a rogues’ gallery, up to
shady business in the ginnels.”
Construction on the set took nine months to complete and occurred as filming went on around it five days per week.
It marks the second expansion since the show moved to its current MediaCity home following the unveiling of Victoria Gardens and its surrounding areas in 2018.
