THE iconic show that is Gogglebox is celebrating 10 years on our screens, and the people who made the show famous and brought us lots of laughs as a result, have been having their say on how it’s changed their lives.
And appearing on Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 show this morning, reality TV favourites and best pals Jenny and Lee chatted about some of the show’s biggest ever secrets.
Gogglebox stars Lee and Jenny revealed some show secrets during their chat with Zoe Ball
Gogglebox is celebrating its 10th anniversary
During the chat, it was revealed by the pair that Gogglebox very nearly didn’t make the cut when it came to naming the show.
In fact, it was going to be named either 242 Minutes as it’s the average amount of time we used to watch TV for in the UK.
Another name thrown into the mix for the show was Watch With Britain, before Gogglebox took the crown.
Lee Riley, 51, and Jenny Newby, 65, are longtime pals from Hull who joined Gogglebox in 2014.
The pair have been best friends from over 20 years after meeting at a pub where Jenny used to work, and they quickly became instant favourites on the show.
But Jenny was originally supposed to do Gogglebox with her daughter, and not Lee.
Jenny explained, however, that her daughter was sick that day and was forced to cancel but Lee had the day off from the pub so jumped in to fill the slot – the rest is history.
The pair also revealed that they used to do vodka shots in the early years of Gogglebox, before going on TV.
“We don’t drink at all now,” Jenny added.
And the story behind the teddy in their caravan was revealed during their radio chat too.
It turns out it’s a nod to Remembrance Day and came from a pub they love.
Jenny also admitted that she “loves” the fame the show has given her.
It was quite the morning for the pair on Zoe’s show, after Lee caused chaos as he swore three times consecutively, saying: “Oh yes that green s***, oh s***, I said s***, sorry.”
Zoe, 52, was quick to jump in, as she apologised to listeners and playfully said: “Lee it’s ok, we’ll just say sorry, sorry for the language, Jenny, stop laughing.
“Do you know what, Liam Gallagher’s been on and he managed not to swear, so if it’s going to be anyone, it’s going to be Lee off Gogglebox.”
Listeners couldn’t stop laughing at the on-air faux-pas as they took to social media to share their thoughts.
One person wrote: “Loved this interview this morning, Jenny & Lee are fabulous.”
The series was originally going to be called 242 Minutes
