Family left stunned

A guest on last night's episode of Antiques Roadshow was left completely stunned after discovering the shocking value of a gold handbag that was left to their family by a mysterious stranger. The popular BBC series, hosted by Fiona Bruce, saw several high-value items being appraised, but it was the dainty gold handbag that stole the show.

A mystery origin

The guest explained that their family received a phone call from London out of the blue, informing them of a safety deposit box that contained several items, including the handbag. Completely unaware of its origin, the family initially thought it was a hoax, saying, "We've not a clue where it's come from [or] who's left it."

An expert's delight

Jewellery expert Susan Rumfitt was enchanted by the gold handbag, describing it as "the stuff of dreams." She admired its softness and femininity, noting that it is made of solid gold. Susan estimated that the handbag, which is around 100 years old and originates from the glamorous 1920s, could fetch between four and six thousand pounds at auction.

A hope for answers

After the appraisal, the guest revealed that they have been in touch with the bank to try and uncover more information about the handbag's mysterious origin. They expressed hope that its appearance on the popular television show might jog someone's memory and provide some answers. The guest was left astounded by the handbag's value and took a moment to process the news before confirming that the estimate was "very good."
