Ranvir Singh Issues Apology
Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh has issued an apology after sparking fury among viewers for failing to mention Jews as victims of the Holocaust. The broadcaster made the 'baffling' mistake during the show's coverage of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on Monday.
Backlash and Apology
During a news segment, Singh reported on the victims of the death camps but omitted the Jewish faith, the group which suffered the largest number of deaths. The Campaign Against Antisemitism criticized the omission, calling it "dire reporting" and stating that it ignored the true nature of the Holocaust. In response to the backlash, Singh issued an apology, acknowledging the mistake and apologizing for the oversight.
Holocaust Memorial Day
Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the closing of the Nazis' biggest death camp by Allied forces on January 27, 1945. More than a million people, mostly Jews, were murdered by the Nazis during the Second World War. King Charles recently became the first British monarch to visit the site, paying tribute to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
