Months after the tragic death of her mother Lola Pearce, Lexi Mitchell has been trying to adjust to life with Jay Brown. However, her world is shattered when she discovers Jay's secret relationship with newcomer Nadine in EastEnders.
Jay's downward spiral
Struggling to cope with his grief, Jay turns to drugs as a way to numb the pain of losing his wife. This only worsens his state of mind, leading to a horrifying accident.
Confessions and family turmoil
After a night filled with booze and drugs, Jay confesses to Billy Mitchell about his drug use but keeps his involvement with Nadine a secret. Billy, devastated by Jay's turmoil, tries to bring the family together for support, but things take a turn when Ben Mitchell reveals everything to Lexi.
Desperate attempts to make amends
Jay tries to reconcile with his family, but Ben and Callum Highway shut him out to protect Lexi. Feeling isolated, Jay turns to a dealer for more drugs. Gina Knight intervenes and offers him a place to stay at The Vic, where they hatch a plan to speak to Lexi.
A fragile situation
As Jay tries to mend his relationships, George grows concerned about his influence on Gina, who has her own history with drugs. Jay's actions reach a breaking point when he ends up in a confrontation with Keanu Taylor.
The consequences of Jay's choices
Jay's downward spiral continues as he faces a huge row with Billy and is ultimately ordered out of their lives. Heartbroken, he decides to drive to Margate against Gina's wishes, leading to a potentially life-changing accident.
With the police looking for Jay's next-of-kin, the future remains uncertain for him in Albert Square.
