I was a Come Dine With Me contestant – it cost me £600 and the bosses knew who they wanted to win from the beginning

A COME Dine With Me contestant has revealed some surprising behind the scenes truths about the Channel 4 competition.

Katy Spence, who previously appeared on the programme, said it wasn’t exactly the experience she expected it to be, claiming it left her £600 out of pocket and that bosses ‘know who they want to win’.

The Channel 4 series offers a £1,000 prize

The long-running show sees a group of strangers battle it out in the kitchen to claim the title of best dinner party host, pocketing a prize of £1,000.

Uploading a video to TikTok, after admitting that she didn’t win the coveted cash, Katy ranted: “During my week, one of the people absolutely should have won, their food was the best.

“But, it’s hugely edited, massively staged – and they know who they want to win right from the get go.”

Going through the list of questions she usually gets asked when people learn she’s been a Come Dine With Me contestant, she recalled one being, ‘Do you get loads of money for taking part?’

“No,” Katy, who starred in an episode back in 2014, answered. “You get £250 and that covers your food, your entertainment and any cutlery that you need.

“Being that you take a gift to each contestant’s house, it cost me five or six hundred pounds – that’s not even including the fact that I couldn’t work for the week because I was filming from about three or four o’clock every day…”

Slapping down visions of drunken gatherings each day, Katy added: “Sitting down for dinner for about six hours, all the while you’re being stared at by four or five people around you. You barely even properly eat, let alone drink.”

Reacting to her revelations, one person commented: “Ngl that’s really upset me. I thought come dine with me was a lot more real than that

Another added: “Staged. i feel betrayed.”

“My heart has been shattered,” wrote a third.
