Inside ‘EastEnders town’ which shows what Albert Square would be like if it was real

A SOAP fan has revealed what life is like in the neighbourhood where Walford would be in real life – and it’s nothing like Albert Square.

Bromley-By-Bow is located between Bow Road and West Ham Tube stops, which is where Walford’s Tube station appears in the fictional map used on the show.

Danny Dyer, who plays Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, did a shift announcing train times at the Bromley-By-Bow Tube stop to celebrate EastEnders’ 30th anniversary in 2015.

But locals have noticed a key difference between fictional Walford and real-life Bromley-By-Bow.

Resident Nafeez told MyLondon: “It’s nothing like Albert Square round here.

“Where are all the Bangladeshis in that show? It’s mostly white people on EastEnders.”

Aisha Shaibu Lenoir said: “It’s very, very different, to be honest this area has been gentrified, very different to EastEnders.”

Ahmed Touati said: “It’s a different area, like you are in a different country, you know.

“Here there’s a lot of Bengali people. And you see the difference, you know.”

Road signs in Bromley-By-Bow are written in Bengali as well as English – and flats in the area have sold for as much as £950,000, a far cry from working-class Walford.

It comes after another soap fan revealed what life is like in the real-life street which inspired Albert Square – and it couldn’t be more different.

The show’s creators Julia Smith and Tony Holland used Hackney cul-de-sac Fassett Square to create their iconic characters.

EastEnders‘ 1985 pilot was shot on location in the real-life neighbourhood, before production moved to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood.

But properties in Fassett Square now fetch just shy of £1million, a far cry from the days when the working-class neighbourhood inspired EastEnders.

The Celeb Report revealed that residents living in the real town where EastEnders is filmed are always spotting TV stars – but beneath the glamour lies a dark underbelly of crime.

The popular TV soap is filmed in Watford, Herts, despite being set in the East End of London.
