Kate Garraway has revealed that her husband Derek is back in hospital. The TV presenter gave a health update on Derek during an appearance on Loose Women today.

Carer turned author

Kate took on the role of carer for Derek after he became seriously ill after contracting Covid in 2020. The Good Morning Britain star appeared on the ITV show to chat about her upcoming book The Strength of Love: Embracing an Uncertain Future with Resilience and Optimism. The novel is a follow up from her first The Power Of Hope, which has documented how much their lives have changed since Derek became ill.

Positive hospital update

Loose Women anchor Charlene White asked how Derek is at the moment, to which Kate replied: "Funnily enough he's back in hospital at the moment. I haven't talked about this. Not for horrific drama fortunately. Because there had been lots of, as we've all experiences, referrals and cancellations. He's gone back in for something that he began last year, which he needed the second part, which will hopefully mean he has more movement. So it's a positive hospital thing. So he's actually not at home at the moment. Hopefully he won't be in for too long."

Awareness for carers' rights

Kate spoke out to raise awareness for National Carers Rights Day, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and supporting unpaid carers. She also mentioned the need for carers to understand their rights and advocate for more support.

A revealing book

During her appearance on Good Morning Britain, Kate's close friend and anchor Susanna Reid admitted to having no idea about the extent of the burden Kate has shouldered as a carer. Susanna praised Kate's book, Strength of Love, for shedding light on the struggles she and Derek have faced. Kate's book provides a glimpse into their journey, while also being mindful of not burdening others with their challenges.

Continuing recovery

Derek was left in a critical condition when he contracted Covid in 2020 and was hospitalized for 13 months. He returned to his family home in April 2021. Kate provided viewers with a significant medical update on Derek's recovery just last month.
