WITH the return of an in-person, full-force San Diego Comic-Con this year, fans from all over the world are being treated to a brand new trailer for The Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Rings of Power.
In the lead up to the release on Prime Video, the latest glimpse at the show teased the menacing existence of Sauron, a close look at a Harfoot, named Sadoc Burrows, and a startling Balrog.
One of the new characters yet to be identified looks similar to Eminem aka Slim Shady
Fans were distracted due to the uncanny resemblance
In the voiceover, a character is heard saying: “Evil does not sleep – it wakes.
“He has not, one name, but many”.
However it was the legendary villain Sauron’s striking resemblance to Eminem, aka Slim Shady, that got tongues wagging.
With short, peroxide blonde, hair, the actor instantly resembles the hip-hop legend.
Towards the end of the trailer, a character suspected to be played by Bridie Sisson appeared with the same hairstyle.
Although nothing has been confirmed yet, several fans are under the impression that these individuals are two different characters who have the same haircut.
Twitter was shortly flooded by Eminem references after the trailers release.
With one user saying: ‘Is that Eminem in #RingsOfPower?
While another chimed in: ‘Anyone else getting #Eminem vibes from this potential Sauron reveal during the Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power trailer?’
Another echoed: “Eminem is The Lord Of The Rings?”
One user joked: “That Rings of Power version looks more like a bootleg Machine Gun Kelly / Eminem knockoff.”
Although we don’t actually know who Sauron/Eminem is for sure yet, all will be revealed soon, as the show is edging closer and closer to our screens.
The Rings of Power’s official synopsis says it will “take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.
“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a joint cast of characters, both old and new, as they challenge the long-feared comeback of evil to Middle-earth.
“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power premieres on September 2 on Amazon Prime Video.
