Meet Dean from Big Brother 2024: The East London barber with a taste of fame

Every year, Big Brother introduces a diverse group of individuals from various backgrounds. Among the 2024 housemates is Dean, a 35-year-old barber from East London who is no stranger to the spotlight.

Dean, a former barber, has decided to switch up his career and join the cast of Big Brother 2024, leaving behind his days of cutting hair and trimming beards.

Expressing his excitement about being on the iconic reality show, Dean shared with ITV, "I’ve been a fan for the longest time. I’ve wanted to do it from the age of 11 and never had the confidence to do it. As I got older, I was still obsessed with the show and as soon as it came back it was ‘this is my time to apply’. I really want to have a great time and experience everything that Big Brother has to offer – the highs, the lows, the good, the bad, the fun, the not so fun. I want it all."

Reality TV Journey

Dean's previous brush with reality TV fame was back in 2014 when he appeared on Channel 4's The Island with Bear Grylls. The show, which tests contestants' survival skills by placing them on a remote island, saw Dean living alone and documenting his experiences.

Surviving with only the clothes on his back and basic tools and training, Dean showcased his resilience on the uninhabited island of Isla Gibraleón, part of the Pearl Islands off the coast of Panama.

Now, ten years later, Dean is ready to take on a new challenge and potentially find fame once again on Big Brother.

Inside the Big Brother House

Dean entered the Big Brother house on October 6, 2024, alongside 15 other housemates. Before his arrival, he expressed his intentions, saying, "I’m going to bring good energy, good vibes, some fun, some love, some charismatic charm. I’m just going to be me and that’s the only thing I know how to do."

When asked about the possibility of being nominated for eviction, Dean acknowledged, "I’ll probably be nominated because I can be annoying. Sometimes if there’s a silence, I like to fill it. I’ll probably get nominated for talking too much."

Despite initial impressions, Dean revealed, "On first impressions, people normally think I’m a bit of an a******e. What’s surprising though is that I am genuinely like a mum. I’m caring, loving, and have a massive heart. I’m a big softie."
