Jon makes a very awkward mistake live on air
One of England’s top junior chess players was a guest on Tuesday’s show
Jon was joined by Sally Nugent on the sofa and was speaking to 13-year-old Jude Shearsby.
Jude is one of the top junior chess players in England, and he was joined by chess coach Paul Lam.
Paul explained how chess is helpful for children to learn certain skills, which they can use throughout their education.
Meanwhile, photographs of a much younger Jude were shown, as he has been playing chess since the age of four.
Jon remarked: “She’s concentrating there look.”
Jude and Paul laughed awkwardly followed by a long pause, and then Jon realised his mistake.
Jon added: “Oh is that you?! I’m so sorry. I thought it was someone with longer hair.”
Even though Jon was left red-faced, Jude didn’t seem to mind Jon’s blunder.
Sally chimed in: “It must be brilliant to have a mentor and someone to guide you through.”
Jude replied: “I can’t thank Paul enough for what he’s done for me, it’s quite ridiculous.
“In lockdown, he gave me three hours on Zoom, just chatting. It’s incredible.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One from 6am.
