Netflix’s Snowpiercer renewed for third series as bosses ‘blow fans’ minds’ with chilling clip

SNOWPIERCER fans will be thrilled to know the dystopian series has been renewed for a third season.

US network TNT announced it had renewed one of its most popular series ever, just days before its second season is due to drop.

Netflix’s Snowpiercer will be back for a third season

Based on Oscar winner Boon Joon-ho’s 2013 film of the same name, Snowpiercer stars Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Connelly, Hamilton star Daveed Diggs and Game of Thrones’ Sean Bean.

The gritty drama is set on board a constantly moving train – Snowpiercer – filled with survivors of a second Ice Age which has made Earth completely inhospitable for living.

A tale of classism and segregation, the train is divided into three classes with people ranked on their perceived worth.

The dystopian series will hit Netflix this week and judging by the latest chilling footage, the new episodes will be the darkest yet.

Show bosses dropped the good news just days out from the premiere of the show’s second season

The upcoming series will see Sean Bean make his debut as the ominous Mr Wilford

A post on the show’s official Twitter page with a chilling clip read: “If Season One left you speechless, then Season Two & Sean Bean will blow. your. mind.”

The streamer’s first series ended with the people of Snowpiercer shaken to learn that the mysterious Mr Wilford (Sean Bean) was in fact alive and well.

Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) had duped the train’s passengers into believing the mogul was dead, when in fact he was driving rival train Big Alice.

The new clip picks up with the two trains merged as Wilford shows the people of Snowpiercer how he runs things – with utmost brutality.

Snowpiercer is a train carrying the only human survivors of an icy apocalypse

“We’re in for something far worse than anything we’ve just come through,” Melanie warns.

Next a smug Wilford purrs: “Apocalypse isn’t so bad really, I think we’re going to get to know each other very well.”

But the constantly moving train is fraught with class divisions and battle for survival

Melanie’s reunion with her daughter looks to be fraught, with the pair forced to part ways as Melanie attempts to take control of the train and “slingshot” it up a mountain.

With humanity’s last survivors facing death, clearly the series will dance with complete extinction – although given the rumours that a third series is all about confirmed, we’re cautiously optimistic.

The trailer comes after the cast teased a “wild, alternate dimension” aboard Big Alice.

Snowpiercer returns to Netflix on January 25 and season one is available to stream now.
