NETFLIX Obsession’s Richard Armitage has lifted the lid on how he came up with the ‘horrifying’ hotel sex scene.
The drama is based on an illicit affair between married surgeon William and his son’s girlfriend Anna, played by Charlie Murphy.

In one raunchy clip, William is seen pleasuring himself while sniffing a pillow that had Anna’s perfume on it.
And according to actor Richard, that particular scene was not in the script.
In a recent interview, Richard said: “It came almost out of an improvisation I would say, because in the script, it involved a Kleenex with some lipstick of Anna’s.”
He continued that production were trying to “physicalise the top of William’s obsession with something he was losing.”
The Hobbit star added: “And something that was so thoughtful and profound which triggered the entire scene was she [Charlie] had been wearing a scent throughout the whole shoot and she left it in the hotel room but I didn’t know that until the cameras were rolling.”
He went on to say: “This scene unfolded and it’s quite special to have that freedom.”
Earlier this month, the streaming service was forced to issue a light-hearted warning to fans to avoid watching the graphic scenes.
Using its Twitter handle @NetflixUK, a representative wrote: “If you’ve made the (questionable) decision to watch Obsession with your parents, these are the moments you’ll probably want to excuse yourself.”
It went on to inform fans of when to skip past the sex scenes: “Ep1: 26m14s Ep2: 00m32s Ep2: 22m00s Ep3: 10m15s Ep3: 25m58s Ep4: 02m15s.”
