PHILLIP Schofield has promised a return to ITV in just ten days’ time – but it could already be “under threat”.
The TV star was axed from This Morning with immediate effect after a fall-out with Holly Willoughby, his co-host of 14 years.
Phillip Schofield is odds-on not to make a return to host the Soap Awards
Phillip insisted in a statement to fans he would be back on-screen on June 3, telling fans: “I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”
But bookies claim he’s odds-on at 4/6 not to host the annual event he’s fronted since 2006.
Following next month’s British Soap Awards, the spotlight will be on Phillip once again when he will go head to head with Holly at another prestigious awards do.
Both have made the Best Presenter long list at the National Television Awards which will take place in September.
Confirming his This Morning departure, an ITV spokesman said: “Phillip will continue to present peak time shows for ITV including next month’s The British Soap Wards and a new prime time series.”
That’s despite being taken off air on Thursday, May 18, without a chance for a farewell show.
Phillip said about stepping down: “ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.”
His statement failed to mention his former BFF Holly, after The Celeb Report revealed their once-close relationship crumbled in recent weeks.
Former This Morning star Eamonn Holmes, 63, blasted the wording of the statements, raging: “Oh please just stop this. He was sacked. All this nonsense of ‘I’ve decided to step down’. I’m sure you did – here’s your P45 now step down.”
An ITV spokesman later issued a dramatic new statement in light of Eamonn’s comments.
They said: “Phillip Schofield’s decision to step down from This Morning was (as his statement made clear) a decision agreed between Phillip and ITV.”
