Piers Morgan mocked by ‘gloating’ Ant and Dec over NTAs loss – as they give him advice about how to win

PIERS Morgan has revealed how a “gloating” Ant and Dec mocked him over his NTAs loss as they played golf at the same course.

The former Good Morning Britain host explained that he bumped into his telly rivals while taking part in a warm-up match with a good friend.

The stars pipped Piers to the post at the National Television Awards

Piers, 56, was “thrashed” by his close pal on the golf course, giving Ant, 45, and Dec, 46, the perfect opportunity to poke fun his way.

He wrote in his Mail on Sunday column that it came ahead of his debut at the Alfred Dunhill Links championship in Scotland.

“I’ve barely touched a club in months,” Piers explains of the after-effects of long Covid after battling the deadly virus earlier this year.

“I played a warm-up match with a mate at Wimbledon Park, he thrashed me,” the television host said, before revealing he bumped into Ant and Dec.

“To compound my misery, Ant McPartlin appeared afterwards to gloat about winning his National Television Award.

“‘Lost again, Morgan?’ he chortled. His sidekick Declan Donnelly was even more insufferable, gleefully brandishing a large trophy in his hands.

“Turned out he’d just won his own annual event, the Donnelly Open. ‘Winning’s a habit, Piers, you should try it sometime!’ he smirked.”

It comes after a long series of swipes betweeen the television rivals after Piers was pipped to the post at the National Television Awards.

Last month, Piers took another cheeky swipe at Ant and Dec and roped in pal Cristiano Ronaldo to help as they rowed on Twitter.

The television host clearly isn’t letting their Best Presenter Award victory – a gong they have scooped for the past two decades – lie.

Arsenal fan Piers picked up on a Tweet sent by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly‘s joint account which read: “Anybody know if there’s any football on today?

“Haven’t heard it mentioned,” followed by football and winking Emoji icons.

The message was referring to their team, Newcastle United’s away game at Manchester United, which will mark Portugal ace Cristiano Ronaldo’s epic Old Trafford homecoming after he re-signed for the northern side last month.

Piers is a major Cristiano fan and copied the winger in as he re-posted Ant and Dec’s message and wrote: “Bury them please.”

Previously, Ant and Dec exclusively told The Celeb Report how Piers was “foolish” for attempting to beat them at the NTAs.

For the 20th consecutive year, the Geordie duo took home the prestigious gong during the live ceremony at the O2 Arena in London.

Chatting exclusively backstage to The Celeb Report after their victory, Dec said: “Every year we come in and think we are going to lose it but honestly when the category comes on and our names are read out our hearts are beating and our palms are sweaty it is like the first ever year again.

“The nerves never get any better and you never think ‘oh yeah it’s in the bag’.”

After being reminded that Piers had told his followers he thought he was going to win, Dec burst out laughing before Ant chimed in: “Ant said: “Foolish wasn’t it – to say that before he had won the award!

“Look, one year we are not going to win it and the running end. The winning streak is going to come to an end but it wasn’t tonight.”

Smirking, Dec added: “We are safe for another 12 months.”

In a catty tweet after his loss, Piers hit out: “Wow! What a shock! Congrats to Ant and Dec.

“Thoroughly deserved 20th consecutive win – the way they held those jungle contestants to account during the pandemic was absolutely brilliant.”

Piers’ dig was in reference to his infamously hard hitting grilling of government ministers on Good Morning Britain during 2020.
