The Cake and Wine Diet
Prue Leith, the 83-year-old judge on The Great British Bake Off, has shared her surprising secret to losing weight during the show. Despite being surrounded by tempting treats, Leith says she sticks to a diet of cake and wine.
A Strict Regime
During the 2019 series, Leith gained a stone in weight. However, she has since adopted a stricter regime while filming. In a recent podcast, she revealed that she eats only a teaspoon of cake per contestant and nothing else. According to Leith, this allows her to stay on track and continue losing weight.
The Power of a Teaspoon
Explaining her strategy, Leith said, "OK, people are all making the same thing but, if you think about it, all I have to do is eat a teaspoon of it. In a cake, you can get the filling, the icing, and the sponge in one teaspoon. I don’t eat anything else. I don’t eat lunch and I don’t eat breakfast."
A Hungry Start
While Leith's approach may seem simple, she admitted that she often feels hungry when filming begins and finds it challenging to stick to just one teaspoon. In contrast, her fellow judge, Paul Hollywood, is known for his discipline and never has more than one mouthful.
The Wine Exception
Although Leith restricts her food intake, there is one thing she refuses to give up. "When it comes to the evening, what I can’t forgo is a couple of glasses of wine," she shared. "So my diet for several weeks is basically cake and alcohol. Probably not ideal, but it’s nice."
So, next time you watch The Great British Bake Off, remember that while the contestants are indulging in delicious creations, Prue Leith is sticking to her unique cake and wine diet to stay on track with her weight loss goals.
