Sheridan Smith's heartfelt message

Sheridan Smith took to Instagram after the final performance of her West End play Opening Night to share an emotional post with her followers. The 42-year-old actor posted a sweet snap of the actors during a curtain call, expressing gratitude for the experience.

The end of Opening Night

Opening Night, which tells the story of a functioning alcoholic actress, faced challenges with slow ticket sales and negative reviews, leading to its early closure. The play, based on a 1977 drama film, was scheduled to run at the Gielgud Theatre until July but closed in May.

Sheridan's emotional response

Sheridan previously opened up about feeling heartbroken for the company and expressed her disappointment in not being able to sell the show as she had hoped. Despite the setback, she remains proud of the production and the team's efforts.

New role for Sheridan Smith

Following the closure of Opening Night, Sheridan is set to play Ann Ming in a new ITV drama based on Ann's book, For The Love Of Julie. The drama will focus on Ann's fight for justice and her successful campaign to change a longstanding law. Filming is expected to begin later this year.
