THE Chase star Anne Hegerty looks unrecognisable in an unearthed throwback photo from 38 years ago.
The I’m A Celebrity star looks worlds away from The Governess in the striking image taken in 1983 when she was just 25.
The quizzer sported a fringe, long curly hair and a striped wool jumper over polo neck in the black and white snap, which will no doubt stun fans.
Anne’s youthful beaming appearance is a long way from her on-screen persona, the matronly Governess on The Chase, who sports retro schoolmarm outfits.
The ITV star previously explained that The Governess is a mix of Caroline Aherne’s comedy character Mrs Merton and Harry Potter’s Dolores Umbridge.
However, Anne admitted The Governess has become more Professor McGonagall, who was played by Maggie Smith, than the British Ministry of Magic bureaucrat Umbridge after a friend told her she couldn’t sustain her persona.
Speaking to Stuff, Anne said of her TV alter-ego: “A friend of mine said ‘you won’t be able to sustain that’, so I went down the more of the standard scary route and, in recent years, at least one American viewer has compared me to Professor McGonagall from the Harry Potter films.
“So McGonagall, not Umbridge: I’ll take that.”
And Anne’s presence as The Governess has won her a legion of fans.
So much so, the star was left stunned earlier this year after a superfan dressed up as the iconic Chaser for Halloween.
Viewer Paul, who goes by @_paperbhoy online, absolutely nailed The Governess’ signature look as he donned a grey pencil skirt and matching jacket in a post that has gone viral.
Sharing photos from his home, Paul layered his blazer over a white blouse and a belt around the waist.
Upping the ante, he donned a pearl-like earrings and the Chaser’s bold red lip while he sported a short wig that resembled Anne’s coif.
Not only did he pose for the camera sporting Anne’s exact stern expression, Paul also had props to elevate the costume.
In a second shot, fans saw him sitting on top of his staircase under a red light with a board of different amounts of money representing the screen on the show.
Captioning the post, he hilariously wrote: “Happy Halloween to everyone except those who take the low offer.”
Paul’s fantastic costume was met with praise by many online, including The Governess herself who retweeted his photo alongside a crying laughing emoji.
