THE Drowning fans have been left baffled by a ‘ridiculous’ secondary school blunder in the first episode.
The new Channel 5 drama stars Jill Halfpenny as Jodie, a woman who is convinced she has found her missing son after spotting a boy called Daniel.
Jodie follows Daniel and finds out where he lives and which school he goes to, but when she shares her conviction that her son is alive with the police and her ex-husband, they dismiss her, forcing her to take matters into her own hands.
Jodie manages to get a job as a music teacher at Daniel’s school despite her lack of qualifications, but her urgency to get close to him forces her to ask one of her employees, Ade (Babs Olusanmokun) to help her source forged documents, after she discovers his own work papers are fake.
However, the fact she faked her DBS check and the speed at which she managed to get it left many viewers baffled.
Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “I had no idea it is so easy to stalk…. sorry, I mean walk into a school. Job offer in days, fake DBS even quicker and no one seems to mind!? Really!!”
Another tweeted: “Why did she need a fake DBS though anyone can get one, unless she has something sinister on her record!”
A third added: “It’s a bit far fetched which is a shame. Getting a teaching job that easy, getting fake papers that easy… next she will be pro at the guitar after a day.”
Meanwhile a fourth agreed, writing: “You can’t fake a DBS, a copy goes to yourself and your employer.”
Despite the fake papers, viewers loved the first episode and are delighted the thriller will be airing over consecutive nights this week.
One wrote on Twitter: “Really enjoyed #TheDrowning brilliant that it’s on nightly I hate waiting a week for new episodes.”
Another added: “#TheDrowning is so good can’t wait to watch it tomorrow really hoping he is her son! What people thinking?! It’s definitely worth a watch..”
The Drowning also stars Jonas Armstrong as Jodie’s lawyer brother Jason, Cody Molko as Daniel and Rupert Penry-Jones as Mark, Daniel’s overprotective father.
The Drowning continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
