Surprisingly Good, Then Silly
The latest addition to The Exorcist franchise, Believer, delivers a surprisingly good horror experience for the first two-thirds of the film. Directed by David Gordon Green, it tells the story of photographer Victor as he navigates a world turned topsy-turvy after an earthquake. The tension builds as two missing girls mysteriously reappear, possessed by the devil. However, the film takes a sudden turn from thrilling to eye-rollingly silly in the final act. Despite this, Believer still manages to provide enough devilish fun for horror enthusiasts.
The Great Escaper
A Final Tribute to Glenda Jackson
The late Glenda Jackson delivers a standout performance in her final movie, The Great Escaper. The film follows the story of Irene Jordan, the wife of real-life World War Two hero Bernard Jordan, who famously "escaped" their nursing home to attend the D-Day commemorations in France. Jackson's outstanding acting is a shining example, and she brings out the best in Sir Michael Caine in what could be his last film. The Great Escaper is a heartwarming British dramedy that pays tribute to a generation worth cherishing.
