TELLY chef Tom Kerridge has defended charging £87 for a steak — by comparing it to a luxury Bentley car
He ran into a storm last year over the cost of the food in his Hand and Flowers pub.
British chef Tom Kerridge compares his food to a high-end car, and believes his £87 steak can be compared to a luxury Bentley car
The chef’s steak comes with chips as well as a Bordelaise and Bearnaise sauce
But Tom, 49, said the price reflected the two years of care that went into rearing the cow.
He told a podcast he liked to compare his food to a high-end car.
He said: “You might get a beautiful Bentley with hand-stitched leather interior. Or something that’s mass-market, hugely intensively produced.
“They both do the same thing. You’ll both sit in traffic on the M6, you both have to put petrol in.
“Except one has a point of care.”
The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, Bucks, was the first pub in the UK to win two Michelin stars. An £85 beef fillet is now its most expensive main.
