Unforgotten: Is Cassie dead?

THE finale of ITV’s hit murder mystery Unforgotten airs tonight (Monday, March 29).

More than 7.4 million viewers tuned in for the series opener, and many are desperate to see the conclusion of the grim murder case.

Unforgotten season four comes to an end tonight

Is Cassie dead?

Viewers were stunned after Cassie was involved in a car crash in the final moments of episode five.

They were left in the dark as to whether the top detective had survived the ordeal.

ITV have only offered a snippet of information ahead of the show: “Despite a tragic turn of events, Sunny and the team narrow down the suspects.

“Will they find conclusive proof of who the murder weapon belonged to and succeed in bringing Walsh’s killer to justice?”

Fans are waiting to find out who killed Matthew Walsh

In a snippet released by the channel ahead of tonight’s episode, we see Sunny running into the hospital and asking the receptionist about a woman who has been brought into the hospital, presumably Cassie.

He calls Cassie’s son, saying: “Hi Adam, it’s Sunny Khan here. Listen, your mum has been involved in an accident in her car… You should probably get down here.”

It doesn’t sound good for Cassie, but we’ll have to wait and see what the finale brings.

Who killed Matthew Walsh?

That has been the leading question since his body was found by DI Sunny Khan and DCI Cassie Stuart  in a scrapyard in North London.

The savvy team discovered he was murdered after being chased on to an allotment, where he received a stab injury to the head, by something like a nail, which we later discover was actually a fountain pen.

Fans suspect that Liz Baildon (Susan Lynch) and Fiona Grayson (Liz White) are both responsible for the killing.

Fiona had been sexually assaulted by Walsh a few weeks before his death, providing her with a motive for his murder.

Fans have several theories about who the killer could be

Earlier in the series, they had a secret meeting, in which they agreed to “stick to the story”.

It seems the pair are trying to implicate Ram and Dean, telling police that the two of them found the men next to a wounded and lifeless Matthew, as they tried to provide CPR in an allotment.

Dodgy dealings are also going on between the two men, who met up in a forest and Ram told Dean that if they stick to “the truth” they should be in the clear.

It also turns out that before his death, Walsh had got into a brawl and shouted racist abuse at an Asian probationer – who appears to be Ram. Could this be a motive?

Why was Matthew’s body kept for 30 years?

Fans are still trying to wrap their heads around this one.

Carl Fogerty, who owned the freezer had contained Matthew’s dismembered body and who had been in the car with the four main suspects on the night of Matthew’s disappearance, is supposedly dead.

But fans have suspected that he is in fact alive, and blackmailing his ex-colleagues.

Writing on Twitter, one user wrote: “Fogerty is still alive, living under a different name, that’s who they’ve been contacting.

“Are they all being blackmailed by him? Doing what he says?”
