Vera star opens up on character’s future after two co-stars quit ITV drama ahead of new series

THE Vera actor has spoken out about their character’s future on the show following the departure of two co-stars in the run-up to the new season.

The ITV detective drama starring Brenda Blethyn is set to return to screens very soon for a thirteenth series.

Last month, Vera fans were left devastated after Kenny, 47, revealed the sad news he would be quitting his role after eight years.

Then the network also announced that, Kenny Doughty – who played Aiden Healy – actress Ibinabo Jack would not be returning.

Ibinabo, who has played DC Jacqueline ‘Jac’ Williams since 2018, will not be back due to her theatre commitments.

Riley Jones, who portrays Mark Edwards in the popular ITV drama, has now opened up about how his character has evolved.

“As the years have gone on, the character gets more established,” the actor told Express.co.uk.

He added: “He’s a sort of a more permanent fixture in the team, so those moments don’t happen as frequently because the character has become more comfortable.”

The actor said that Mark’s character has reached a stage in the team “where he knows the job” and “role” now.

Riley continued: “He knows what he should be looking for and it’s often to do with the CCTV and it’s often to do with anything laptop related and getting information.”

Brenda said of the two actors’ departure, “It’s been such a pleasure to work alongside Kenny and Ibinabo.”

“They’ve both been terrific members of the Vera team, and I’ll miss them.

Cast returning alongside Brenda and David for three new feature length films include Jon Morrison, who plays DC Kenny Lockhart and Riley Jones, who plays DC Mark Edwards.
