OLIVIA Plath revealed she moved out of the home she shares with husband Ethan Plath.
On Tuesday’s episode of Welcome to Plathville, the 23-year-old confessed she left after an “intense argument” with her husband amid marriage troubles.
In a confessional, Olivia got emotional as she admitted she decided to move in with a friend for a while after struggling with Ethan.
“Deciding to move out was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my relationship with Ethan.
“I left one night after a really intense argument and to me it was just like a survival move. I didn’t discuss it beforehand.” she added.
Olivia explained she moved out because she wants Ethan to make his “own decisions and choices.”
“Sometimes I’m really afraid that Ethan goes along with what I say just because he doesn’t want to make me upset.”
Olivia accused Ethan of “ignoring what was happening” in their marriage so she decided to take some space.
“Obviously I love Ethan and I’m willing to wait… but if I see months and months go by and nothing changes… then I think I’ll have to face the new reality.
“The ball is in Ethan’s court whether or not we get back together.” she said.
Later in the episode Ethan described Olivia leaving as like a “death” and said he felt heartbroken.
“Life is on hold right now, I don’t know what’s going on.”
FANS SLAM OLIVIA
Fans of the TLC show slammed Olivia for “not compromising.”
“Olivia doesn’t seem to know how to compromise, and she needs to stop “crying”.” came on scathing observation on Twitter.
Another viewer chimed in: “Olivia saying if nothing changes is the equivalent of her saying if I don’t get my way.”
One fan wrote: “I feel sorry for Ethan. Olivia has tried to change him in every way. She’s pulled him from his family and he’s gone alone with it all. As soon as he doesn’t follow what she wants she leaves? He’s better off divorced.”
Another person tweeted: “Olivia is not willing to wait if she already moved out of the house”
On last week’s episode the couple had difficult conversations about taking time apart.
“I want to take some space because I think until he figures out what he wants I’m not really able to have a relationship with him,” Olivia said.
Asked how that made him feel, Ethan replied, “I can’t make sense of it, it doesn’t make sense.
“I feel like I have worked so hard to give you a good life, to give us a good life at 22, and it wasn’t good enough,” he added.
GROWING DIVIDE
Olivia went on to say there was a “growing divide” between the couple.
“I’ve lived with you for over two years and I wasn’t what you wanted then, what you wanted then was this house and that job and those cars and this lifestyle,” she said.
“There’s a growing divide between us because he holds on to everything here and the more I distance myself from everything here and the more I realize that he wants to keep it the harder it is to reconcile in my mind.”
“Have you ever thought about the fact that that might be because that’s the only thing I have left?” Ethan asked.
Olivia added that she thinks they just want different things in life.
“I have thought about that,” she responded. “But it’s really hard for me to want so much with my life and realize that I will probably not get to have that if we’re together, and it’s really hard for me to reconcile like, I love you and do I want this relationship or do I want this for my life? Because I feel like it’s an either/or and it’s really hard to know what to do.”
MARRIAGE PROBLEMS
Ethan added, “I don’t think that it’s an either/or, I think that there has to be compromise on both sides and maybe I’m just in the middle of it and I can’t see clearly, but I feel like I have compromised a lot.
“You don’t have to change,” Olivia told Ethan.
“And you don’t see that and so this just feels like yet another compromise where I have to change to suit you.”
“Yeah well, listen, when I say that, it’s understood that for this to work, I have to change,” he said.
Last week’s episode showed tensions rising between the couple as they disagreed about where they wanted to live.
Olivia explained why she wanted to move to a bigger city while Ethan said he was happier in a rural town.
As the episode opened, Ethan expressed his doubt about moving to Tallahassee with Olivia and said he wanted to make sure their relationship is going to be okay first.
MISCARRIAGE BOMBSHELL
Earlier in the season Olivia confided in Ethan’s sister Moriah, 18, about being relieved about a miscarriage she suffered.
After discussing birth control with Moriah, who gushed about her relationship with Max, Olivia said she wasn’t using any protection.
She then admitted that she suffered a pregnancy loss but was relieved it didn’t happen.
“I did get pregnant. A little while back. And I miscarried.” she said.
“I felt bad for being relieved, but I was so relieved because it was, like, a wake-up call of, like, ‘I’m not ready to have a kid. I don’t want a kid.'”
“Ethan was just as relieved as me.” she added.
In a confessional, Olivia said: “I know the topic of miscarriage is something that’s like, super personal and affects a lot of people and people feel very differently. But I also think there’s a stigma around it and there’s not a lot of freedom to talk about it,” Olivia said.
“I know when I went through a miscarriage, I felt really alone because I was glad,” she admitted. “And I felt like I was wrong for feeling that way and I wish I’d had more people to talk to who could’ve been a sounding board or who could’ve had a different perspective, maybe than what I was raised with.”
Eldest child Ethan is estranged from his parents after they didn’t agree with Olivia’s influence on their son and the other children.
This lead to the couple breaking ties with them on the second season of the show.
