Behind the scenes, the story of production staffer, Albert Omstead, and the news surrounding his tragic death garnered much media attention.
What was Cobra Kai’s Albert Omstead’s cause of death?
Albert Omstead passed away on July 19, 2021, after a freak accident that took place in his Atlanta home.
The unfortunate circumstances happened when he returned home from working on the set of Cobra Kai.
Upon his return home, Omstead began fixing a leak in the garage.
While repairing the garage leak, a retaining wall suddenly collapsed and fell on top of Omstead.
The debris from the garage retaining wall trapped Omstead, which resulted in the production professional succumbing to his injuries.
His brother-in-law, Scott Wachtel, told news outlet 11 Alive: “Instantaneously, the entire thing just collapsed on top of him.”
He continued: “The garage door was closed and there was a van parked right here (in front of garage), so he couldn’t run this way (towards garage), he couldn’t run this way (away from garage) because the rest of the wall was collapsing over here, so he had nowhere to go.”

Albert Omstead worked on a number of Netflix and television productions.
Omstead previously staffed on Stranger Things, Atlanta, The Walking Dead, Sweet Magnolias, Creepshow, among numerous other shows.
Stranger Things star, Gaten Matarazzo, posted a tribute on Instagram.
The actor captioned the post: “Sending love and prayers to the Omstead family.”
Gaten continued: “A funny, caring, hard working, firecracker of a man. Sending love to his wife Que and to his five kids.”
He added: “He is a prime example of the incredible, And massive community it takes to make a show like this.”
Cobra Kai dedicated the seventh episode of their fourth season to Albert Omstead in honor of his memory.
Did Albert Omstead have children?
Albert Omstead remained married to Que Omstead until his untimely death.
Albert shared four stepchildren with Que, they had one biological child together.
Albert’s obituary details his devotion to fatherhood.
His obituary reads: “He had a heart of solid gold, the mind of a mathematician, and the self discipline of Master Splinter; but most importantly, he was a loving Papi to his children and wonderful husband to his spouse.”
Albert’s obituary concludes: “He is survived by his spouse, Que Omstead, and their children, Frankie, Rowan, Liam, Aidan, and Nev, as well as his two sisters, Ruthie Wachtel and Jenny Pampalon, and his parents, Larry and Imelda Omstead.”
