Chizzy Akudolu as Mo Effanga
Chizzy Akudolu first appeared as Mo Effanga in the fourteenth series episode ‘Double Bubble’, broadcast on May 22, 2012.
Mo is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon and a member of Holby’s transplant team.
Akudolu has won and been nominated for several awards for her portrayal of Mo.
Hugh Quarshie as Ric Griffin
Kobina Eric “Ric” Griffin is portrayed by actor Hugh Quarshie.
The character is introduced as a consultant in general surgery during the series four episode ‘Rogue Males’, which was broadcast on October 9, 2001.
Ric is the show’s longest-serving character in the medical drama.
The actor announced his departure in 2020, after 19 years on the show.
Luke Roberts as Joseph Byrne
Luke Roberts plays the role of Joseph Byrne in the BBC medical drama.
Joseph first appeared in the series eight episode ‘Mother Love’, broadcast on January 3, 2006.
His role in the drama is that of a troubled surgeon, who struggles with his OCD and his brother’s suicide attempt.
Catherine Russell as Serena Campbell
Serena Campbell is played by Catherine Russell.
She first appeared in the fourteenth series episode ‘Coercion’, which aired May 1, 2012.
Her character, Serena is a consultant general surgeon and the deputy CEO of Holby General Hospital.
The actress took a break from the drama back in early 2017, but returned to the following year.
Shen then made the hard decision to leave, with her final scene airing on January 21, 2020.
Jemma Redgrave as Bernie Wolfe
Berenice “Bernie” Wolfe is played by actress Jemma Redgrave.
Bernie is an army medic and a consultant general surgeon.
Jemma portrayed Bernie February 2016 to August 2017.
She later appeared in a series of guest stints in 2018, 2021 and 2022.
What happens at the end of Holby City?
It will be for sure an emotional episode as the teaser has promised that the focus will be on the regular cast members as they say goodbye to their loyal viewers.
It will also focus on Jac Naylor’s (played by Rosie Marcel) declining health as she goes into surgery.
Actor David Ames who plays Dominic Copeland told Lorraine in an recent interview: “Loose ends will be tied, stories will be rounded off nicely. What we can look forward to is a really heartfelt … just a massive tribute to what it’s about, which is the NHS and what they do for us.
“How do you finish 23 years of a weekly story of these people’s lives? It will be quite moving and quite shocking. I think it’s spectacular in human terms as opposed to special effects and big stunts.”
