But one of Corrie’s most prolific baddies has to be Richard Hillman.

Who was Richard Hillman in Coronation Street?
Richard Hillman is one of the most infamous Corrie villains and was on the soap from 2001-2003.
He was married to Gail Platt and although he seemed charming at first he soon showed his darker side.
A heartless and dishonest businessman, Richard conned many people out of their savings through dodgy shares in his property business.
His criminal behaviour escalated into murder and attempted murder, which led him to his untimely death.
What happened to Richard Hillman in Corrie?
Richard was killed off in March 2003.
After confessing his crimes to Gail, he attempted to murder the entire Platt family by tying them up in the car, gassing them and then driving them into the canal.
Gail, David, Sarah and Bethany survived the ordeal but Richard drowned.
How was Richard Hillman found out?
First of all he decided to go after Audrey Roberts’ money by setting her house on fire and making it look like she was insane.
After his attempts to murder Audrey failed he decided to kill Emily Bishop instead so he could inherit her house and money.
However, he was interrupted by Maxine Peacock who met a grisly end.
When she caught him red-handed he said the infamous line “you should have stayed at the party Maxine…” before battering her to death.
How many victims did Richard Hillman have?
Richard killed three people during his time in the cobbles.
He left his business partner Duggie Ferguson to die from a fall, then killed his ex-wife Patricia Hillman, and then killed Maxine Peacock.
Who played Richard Hillman in real life?
The evil killer was played by Brian Capron, who had previously appeared in the soap in the 80s as a social worker.
As Richard, the actor was on Corrie for two years from 2001 until 2003.
Before that he was best known for playing Mr Stuart “Hoppy” Hopwood in Grange Hill, and Murray McCoy in Full House.
Since leaving the soap he has appeared in various stage show tours, and also competed on Strictly.
Corrie wasn’t Brian’s first soap.
He starred as Jerry in EastEnders in 1993 and 1994, and Peter in Casualty in 1988.
His film credits include 101 Dalmatians (1996), Emma (1996), and Ambleton Delight (2009).
